The former took down the last Metro Independence Day Special (MIDS) title while the latter placed 4th in the same tournament, which had a prize pool of over 2M pesos. Despite the heavy rains the night prior, the Metro Card Club was packed to the brim with players all wanting to get a piece of that 2 million guaranteed prize pool of the Metro Independence Day Tournament.
The Metro Card Club Independence Day Tournament, which guarantees Php 2,000,000 for a buy-in of Php3,000, started off today with a field of 232 runners for Day1a. Notable names that played today were professional poker players Eric Sia, Don Carmona, Mark Rivera, Melvin “The Miracle” Matibag, Wally Sombero, Martin Gonzales, Event #30 WPT Southern Poker Championship Russell Blattberg, and our very own APT Champion Neil “Dirty Ice Cream” Arce.
The Summer Speedster Freeroll kicked off today with 156 players in the field. All of these players had successfully accumulated 200 hours, some even surpassing the requirement, playing cash games from April 1 to May 31, 2011.
The Summer Speedster Freeroll guarantees a Mazda 3, a Toyota Vios and 1 million pesos in cash. All the players who qualified have been placed in the money with a minimum payout of Php1,000. The third placer will receive Php310,000 while the 1st and the 2nd placers will win the brand new Mazda 3 and the Toyota Vios, respectively.

Included in this field is Filipino Poker Tour's Alan Escano, Asian Poker Tour Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas, Professional Poker Player Eric Sia and Martin Corpuz, Stand-up Comedian Anton Diva, Dirty Ice Cream Cup 2010 Champion Mark Amparo and Metro Card Club President Nick Galan.
